If you have arrived in the USA or Canada from another continent, it is not likely that you will arrive in time to pick up your vehicle until the following day. If you do arrive in time, you may pick up your vehicle, but for safety reasons, you may not leave the city until the following day. We recommend that you spend the first night in a hotel or bed and breakfast near the rental station. We are happy to help arrange an appropriate accommodation for you and your fellow travelers. It is very important that you contact your rental station as soon as possible once you arrive in the USA or Canada, or within 48-hours before your scheduled pick-up day, so we can coordinate your pick up time.
Rentals of 14 days and more include the cost of a transfer to and from the rental station up to $25 per way. The Taxi receipt has to be presented to the GoNorth counter staff for reimbursement. Due to local laws regarding commercial operators, we cannot provide any shuttles to or from the airport.
It can take up to 1.5 hours for the required vehicle orientation, to complete payment and sign all the required paperwork. Check-in and check-out takes place between 10AM and 3PM, and the vehicle has to be returned at the same time as it was picked up. We guarantee pick-up by 3PM, however, we strive to have vehicles ready for pick up before. You are required to examine the vehicle carefully upon pick-up, and all damages to the vehicle will be stated on the damage report.
After the vehicle orientation, the contract will be signed and all additional charges including a deposit will be charged to your credit card. A copy of the contract, as well as the credit card slip, will be handed to you. The vehicle is equipped with an operations manual for quick reference.
We require a fully refundable deposit of $500 to $2000 to cover possible damage to the vehicle and possible cleaning charges. The deposit will be charged to your credit card, and will be returned to you in full when the vehicle is returned in the same condition it was in when you picked it up.
We perform an extensive safety and operations test before we allow any vehicle to leave our yard. All vehicles are relatively new and have been properly serviced. They should not break down. If your vehicle does break down or appears to be developing mechanical problems, you must inform us immediately. Please be aware that you may wait several days before the vehicle can be repaired or a replacement can be delivered, and that refunds are not available for this type of delay. We are not responsible for delays, schedule changes or other damages that result from accidents or breakdowns. Failure to inform GoNorth of mechanical problems in a timely manner is considered a breach of contract.
While you are renting our vehicle, you are fully responsible for its proper care and maintenance, like checking the oil or tire pressure. There is a maintenance schedule in each vehicle that covers fluid and filter changes, preventative maintenance, etc. You will be responsible for following this maintenance schedule while you are in possession of the vehicle. Present receipts from all maintenance and repair service when you return your vehicle, and we will fully refund all of these expenses.
All of our vehicles operate on gasoline. Depending on type and traveling conditions, the average consumption is between 12 and 25 miles per gallon. Please note that the vehicle must be returned with the same amount of fuel as it had when you picked it up.
Generally, our vehicles are allowed on all public highways throughout Alaska, the Yukon Territory, Western Canada and the Lower 48, including unpaved roads. We charge an additional $0.25 per mile driven with a motorhome on gravel road, and motorhomes are not allowed to drive Petersville Road after Mile 10. We reserve the right to issue temporary road restrictions in the case of unusually poor road conditions, natural or man-made hazards. We issues these restrictions based on information provided by the Alaska Department of Transportation and the Alaska State Troopers. You must always abide by restrictions issued by these agencies or their Canadian counterparts. Leisure travel on the Dalton Highway is allowed as far north as Wiseman only during winter month (October 1st thru April 30th).
Unless you purchase the Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), you will be fully responsible for 100% of all damages to the vehicle while it is in your possession. In order to decline the CDW, you must provide certification from your own insurance company that your policy covers rental vehicles. The CDW limits your responsibility for collision damage to max. $2000.
Our VIP Protection Package is available in conjunction with the CDW. It covers road hazard damage (to glass and tires for example), and further reduces your responsibility for both road hazard and collision damage to $500. Detailed questions about insurance can be clarified at the rental station when you pick up your vehicle.
In the case of accident, damage, theft or vandalism, contact the police, and ensure that they file a report. Without this police report, the insurance company will not cover the accident, and you will be fully responsible for all damages. Be sure that everyone in your party is safe, then inform us immediately. Damages may be repaired only with advance permission from us. We will not reimburse you for repairs without prior permission and a receipt.
Vehicle return can take up to 1 hour. Your vehicle must be returned to us during official hours, according to the appointment arranged when the rental contract was signed. There is a penalty for delayed drop off. In order to avoid additional cleaning fees or repair charges, you must return the vehicle in the same condition as it was upon pick-up, both inside and outside.
When you arrive at the rental station to return your vehicle, it is recommended to pack and unload the bags first, then our staff will check the vehicle. Any additional mileage, damage charges, fuel and cleaning fees will be assessed at this time. One of our staff members will assist organizing a taxi to the airport or hotel for you.
Minimum age for winter rentals is 25 years of age. We require for all winter rentals that you have a minimum of 3 years driving experience in cold winter conditions with icy roads and snow. You will have to sign a document during pick up procedure, stating that all drivers listed in the contract are meeting these requirements. VIP is not available for rentals between October 1st and April 30st. A minimum deposit of USD 2000 is due at the time of the pickup. Leisure travel north of Wiseman is NOT allowed during winter time (October 1 – April 30) and constitutes a breach of contract.
