This tour provides an opportunity to experience Alaska's Arctic by air one way and guided ground tour the other way. You will be able to combine that with the chance to look for the Aurora Borealis as the skies begin to darken.

Itinerary

  • Fly from Fairbanks to Coldfoot, north of the Arctic Circle in the Brooks Mountain Range. The flight provides an aerial view of the vast Alaska wilderness.
  • Ground tour south on the Dalton Highway, made famous during the construction of the Trans Alaska Pipeline.
  • Cross the Arctic Circle and receive an official Arctic Circle Adventure Certificate.
  • Explore up close the amazing arctic tundra and feel the veins of ice just beneath the surface.
  • Experience the mighty Yukon River. Marvel at the majestic beauty of the northland's most famous waterway and learn of the river's storied past.
  • View the remarkable Trans Alaska Pipeline.
  • Once the sky gets dark, the guide will make one or two stops along the road to scan the northern sky for the aurora.

Tour is available from August 21 to September 18, 2017
Departs 1:00 PM, returns between 1:00 and 2:00 AM

Homestead Aurora Add-On

Stay out later on your Arctic Circle Fall Aurora Drive during the time right before and after Solar Midnight. This is the time the scientists have identified as the most active in Alaska.

As your Arctic Circle Fall Aurora Drive returns to Fairbanks there is a stop at approximately 11:00 PM in Joy, Alaska at the Arctic Circle Trading Post. There, guests who have added the Homestead Aurora, will meet their new guide who will share more information on life in Alaska's Arctic while you scan the darkened sky for the Aurora Borealis. If you add this experience, you will get back to Fairbanks between 3.30 and 4.30AM.
