In 1928, what is now Gustavus Inn, was a homestead where a hardy couple and their nine children settled to carve a home from the Alaskan wilderness. For three generations now, the Lesh family has been inviting visitors to their home and shares hearth and table for adventures in Glacier Bay and Icy Strait. Gustavus Inn rests in the grassy Salmon River meadow with an ocean view of Icy Strait.Spend three days at this gem and explore the Glacier Bay National Park as you go on a boat tour as well as a whale watching cruise.
The cozy hearth room, naturalist library and family style dining invite conversation and new friendships. A variety of locally brewed beers and wine is available at the six-stool bar. Comfortable guest rooms have a queen and a twin bed with private bath. Two original homestead rooms, with oceanview, share a hall bath. WI-FI is provided throughout the inn.
Set aside a day for a boat cruise of Glacier Bay combining drama and ecological wonder, the calving of mammoth icebergs, incredible wildlife viewing and the rebirth of forests after the Ice Age.
Depart on a half day whale watching cruise on the second day and explore the park on a ranger-led walk or on your own, or relax while kayaking in the salt water.
