Kodiak Treks is not a flightseeing program but offers small group adventure, low impact bear viewing excursions and great experiences based out of their lodge, located in the heart of Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge. The program is designed for nature enthusiasts, looking to experience wild Alaska with knowledgeable, local guide and feeling comfortable in bear country. Recommended are 3 to 5 days stay to minimize impact on bears and to maximize your experience.
Family-owned and operated Kodiak Treks offers an absolutely unique and awesome way to experience spectacular Kodiak Island. The trips are limited to six guests and are based out of the lodge with overnight camping trips to an out-camp. At least one night of each trip is based out of the out-camp, as it allows foot access to the bear viewing area. Kayaking, birding, fishing and additional wildlife viewing trips to seal and bird rocks, eagle nests, etc. are further options while at the lodge, offered at no extra cost.
Rustic comfortable accommodations are what awaits you on Aleut Island in the lodge and in the tents, located 50 air miles southwest of the city Kodiak in spectacular Uyak Bay. The operation runs with "clean energy"-solar power. No generators humming, just the sound of the many local bird varieties and the surf on the beach. Private sleeping quarters and a sauna house for bathing and relaxation provide comfort and privacy on the wilderness island paradise. Kodiak's lush vegetation makes June-early July or late September the best times for hiking.
