Valdez is a Gold Rush town located at the head of a fjord on the eastern side of Prince William Sound, about six to seven hours from Anchorage by car. Valdez is often referred to as "Little Switzerland", as it is surrounded by the Chugach Mountains and glaciers. It is home to a variety of wildlife like sea otters, humpback whales, puffins and bald eagles.
Valdez also marks the southern end of the trans Alaska pipeline which runs from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez. The town was nearly destroyed in the 1964 earthquake and was rebuilt about four miles from its original location. Valdez is the activity center for Prince William Sound, a mix of tidewater glaciers, rain forests, and mountains. If you do not find what you are looking for below, please contact us.
