The Lodge
Built in 1987, Kennicott Glacier Lodge is a replica of one of the historic mining buildings from the copper mining boom town days. It is located near the center of the 40 remaining structures in the ghost town of Kennicott, a company town built circa 1910. It’s a perfect base to explore Kennicott and McCarthy.
There are two buildings with guest rooms, the Main Lodge and the South Wing.
The Main Lodge is the original building of this Alaskan lodge and includes 23 guest rooms, the lobby, and the dining room. There are two comfortable common rooms where you can relax after a day of exploration and a 180ft panoramic front porch where you can enjoy the spectacular view. The Main Lodge is decorated throughout with interesting photos and artifacts from the historic Kennicott Copper Mine. All rooms in the Main Lodge have shared bathrooms down the hall. There are seven bathrooms and six shower rooms conveniently located throughout the lodge. Baths are “private use” but are shared with other guests staying in the Main Lodge. Each room in the Main Lodge is uniquely decorated with historic photos and artifacts from the Kennicott Copper Mine. Rooms have a cold water sink and electrical outlets but do not have phones, TVs, or refrigerators.
The newer South Wing is located 200 ft south of the Main Lodge and features 20 spacious guest rooms, a large common room, and a front porch with a panoramic view. All South Wing rooms have a bathroom and shower in the room. They enjoy views of the Kennicott Glacier, Mount Blackburn, and the Chugach Mountains. Rooms have electrical outlets but do not have phones, TVs, or refrigerators.
Meals are taken at the Main Lodge if desired. Dinner is served a 7PM and pre reservations are required.
