This is an off-the-beaten track adventure with a maximum of 5 guests at a time. The hosts are trained biologists and focus not only on bear viewing but also on creating an awareness for wildlife among their guests. The daily program will be designed according to the interests of the group.
Rustic accommodations (no running water) are what awaits you on Aleut Island in the lodge and in the tents located 50 air miles southwest of the city Kodiak in spectacular Uyak Bay. Private sleeping quarters and a sauna house for bathing and relaxation provide a bit of comfort and a lot of privacy on the wilderness island paradise. Overnight is in basic cabins without shower or any running water. You wash out at the back of the cabin with rain water, an outhouse serves as toilet. It’s a short walk from the cabin to the main house where meals are served. The operation runs with “clean energy”-solar power. No generators humming, just the sound of the many local bird varieties and the surf on the beach.
To enhance the experience usually at least one night of each trip is based out of an out-camp, as it allows foot access to bear viewing areas.
During your stay several activities are available at no extra charge:
- Kayaking: approx. 45 minutes around Aleut Island with longer trips possible
- Fishing: possible catches include Halibut, Rock Fish, Pink, Chum and Silver Salmon, and Dolly Varden
- Hiking, Birding, occasional Whale watching, and visits to pristine locations in majestic Uyak Bay.
