The Hotel
The charming McCarthy Lodge, now called Ma Johnson’s Historical Hotel, is a former boarding house that brings alive the sensibilities and warm hospitality of the past. A stay at this living museum reveals stories about McCarthy’s colorful history. It serves as a central meeting place throughout the year for the community of McCarthy/Kennicott and during the summer as the central dining venue. Since 2021 the town center of McCarthy is an event space for entertainment on the weekends. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights there are going to be celebrations with live music and the local neighborhood.
The 20 bedrooms are all unique and small, but distinctive and feature historic artifacts, fabric covered walls, and original handmade quilts. The hotel lobby is a faithful period room that is sure to induce a feeling of stepping back in time. There are no TV’s or phones in the rooms. The hotel, as well as all other historic buildings, is completely non-smoking. There are no outlets in the rooms, but there are electric lights and outlets for CPAP systems and charging batteries throughout the building. The rooms are shared bath, however there is 1 bathroom for every two bedrooms, and most rooms have sinks with hot/cold running water.
