Located on the upper banks of the Kenai River in Southcentral Alaska, Kenai Riverside Lodge is in the heart of some of Alaska’s most beautiful scenery. For sportfishing enthusiasts, Kenai Riverside Lodge also offers sportfishing packages.

Redoubt Bay Lodge, located at the entrance to Lake Clark Pass, offers the only accommodations within a 171,000 acre critical habitat area. This small, rustic lodge sits on a small knoll overlooking Big River Lakes, a chain of lakes whose waters lead to the Big River and to the Cook Inlet. A resident bear population inhabits the Redoubt Bay Lodge area, one of the densest bear populations in the state.
After a beautiful 50-minute flight from Anchorage via floatplane, you will land on Big River Lakes. Redoubt Bay Lodge staff will greet you and show you to your cabin. Three small lakeside guest cabins, a cozy hand-hewn log main lodge, and world-class staff and service make your stay at Redoubt Bay Lodge a memorable addition to your Alaskan adventure.
You have the opportunity to see bears that come to the waters to fish for salmon. You can also enjoy sport fishing for salmon, kayaking around the lakes and you can enjoy the natural beauty of the Redoubt Bay Critical Habitat area. Excursions into Lake Clark National Park, flight seeing through the Pass and to the Redoubt Volcano are offered as well as other adventures in the surrounding area.
The small main lodge is a hand-hewn historic log cabin. You will notice the weather reporting equipment in the lodge. The small lodge offers dining facilities and the kitchen where all lodge meals are prepared.
There is a small reference library, games as well as stationery and postcards for writing home. The planning stage is a new extension of the lodge to the south from the current kitchen and dining area.
Breakfast is served at 8:00 a.m., house lunch for overnight and day guests is served at 1:00 p.m. and dinner is served at 7:00 p.m. Coffee and snacks are always available throughout the day at the coffee bar.
Be as physically rigorous as you like or kick back and enjoy the fresh air. The emphasis at Redoubt Bay Lodge during the summer months is the spectacular natural terrain surrounding the lodge, the local wildlife residents and what we can learn from this fragile and special environment. Therefore, the focus is on sport fishing, bear viewing or natural history.
Your day may include a tour of the lake by canoe, a walk on the bog or swimming in the lake.
The critical habitat area established at Redoubt Bay is to protect the millions of birds that migrate, nest and live in the area. It is the world’s only nesting ground for the Tule goose, a sub-species of the White-fronted goose. At least one-third of all birds recorded in Alaska can be viewed here. Ask to borrow a set of binoculars for bird viewing!
The Fishing
Located at Big River Lakes, Redoubt Bay Lodge is a fisherman’s dream with some of the best Sockeye and Coho Salmon fishing on the Westside of the Cook Inlet. Fly-out guided Fishing by helicopter or floatplane can be arranged against a surcharge.
Canoe the lake
Canoes and kayaks are available at the lodge to give you the opportunity to check out the meandering coves of Big River Lakes. Spend a few minutes or all day exploring the famous Big River Lakes area.
Bear Viewing
Because of the salmon population at Big River Lakes there are many bears that feed in the local area. The lodge is working hard to protect the resident bears and to co-exist with them. A trained naturalist guide will take you for an up close and safe view of the nearest neighbors. The two kinds of bears we see in Southcentral Alaska are Brown Bears and Black Bears. Your chances are good to see either type of bear but Redoubt Bay Lodge is most noted for their resident Brown Bear population. At Redoubt Bay Lodge, most of the Black Bears will leave early in the season when the Brown Bears move into the vicinity.
Photography Opportunities
Big River Lakes offers a spectacular setting for novice and professional wilderness and outdoor photographers. Periodically special wilderness photography classes are offered at Redoubt Bay Lodge.
Add-on activities flying out from the lodge are offered, for example: Floatplane Flightseeing for Nature Enthusiasts, Helicopter Ridge Hike or Floatplane Day Hike in Lake Clark Pass, Guided Fishing by Floatplane or Helicopter. Please inquire about rates.
