Important information:
As you book Glacier Hike with us, it is important to note that there has been significant deterioration to the last 200 feet of the 2-mile trail to the Root Glacier. Please make sure you are aware that the 2-mile hike out to the glacier may include any of the following, and that trail conditions can change from one day to the next:
- Loose rock
- Exposed ice
- Loose rock over ice
- Steep terrain
The majority of those features occur over the last ¼ mile of the trail. With the help of the guide, very few clients have had to turn back without getting onto the glacier, but it has been helpful for clients to know about this terrain before signing up for the activity. Although there is not a set age limit, this terrain has been challenging for a variety of our clients ranging from younger children to adults who are unstable on their feet.
We strongly recommend that families with kids under 8 or groups that find the trail conditions intimidating book a Private Hike Tour so they can go at their own pace, take as many breaks as they need, and return from their hike early if the terrain is too challenging. Please inquire about a Private Hike Tour if you think you may benefit from that.
