Day 1: Whitehorse
Arrival in Whitehorse, capital city of the Yukon. Take some time to explore this charming “Wilderness City” with the mighty Yukon River flowing through.
Day 2: Whitehorse – Haines (244 miles)
Once you passed Haines Junction, enjoy the drive on the Haines Highway, known for its grand views of glaciated mountains and the variety of its scenery – from coastal forests to alpine tundra.
Day 3: Haines
Explore Haines on your own and take a stroll through downtown or head off for a hike to see more of the beautiful scenery and amazing wildlife. If you want to see even more – add an optional daytrip to Skagway or Juneau!
Day 4: Haines – Haines Junction (148 miles)
Surrounded by a beautiful and rugged landscape, Haines Junction is truly a wilderness town and offers exceptional outdoor experiences
Day 5: Haines Junction – Beaver Creek (148 miles)
The morning is perfect to explore more of Kluane National Park – either on a hike or with an optional scenic flight over the park. Later, follow the Alaska Highway along the border of Kluane National Park and the shores of Kluane Lake.

Day 6: Beaver Creek area– Dawson City (302 miles)
A long, but very scenic (weather permitting) drive on the Taylor- and Top of the World Highways will take you to Dawson City. Enjoy the spectacular views while the Top of the World Highway winds its way across the hills.
Day 7: Dawson City
A full day to discover the charming gold rush town. The unpaved streets and historic house fronts reflect the old days. Other than the attractions related to gold there are scenic delights like the viewpoint at the Midnight Dome or the walking trail along the Yukon- and Klondike Rivers.
Day 8: Dawson City – Eagle Plains (253 miles)
Today you will travel on the Dempster Highway, a typical gravel road of the north. Especially the area around the Tombstone Mountains features amazing scenery and lots of wildlife.
Day 9: Dempster Highway/Eagle Plains
Explore the tundra landscape along the Dempster Highway. There are some good hikes in the area. Another 23 miles north of Eagle Plains you can cross the Arctic Circle.
Day 10: Eagle Plains –Dawson City (253 miles)
Return on the Dempster Highway and on the Klondike Highway back to Dawson.
Day 11: Dawson – Mayo (143 miles)
Follow the Klondike Highway south to the intersection with the Silver Trail, a 69 miles gravel road to Mayo, the hub of the mining industry in this area. It’s worthwhile to follow the road all the way to Keno City and spend the day visiting the mining museum or hiking.
Day 12: Mayo – Tagish Lake (315 miles)
Follow the Klondike Highway farther south through Carmacks and Whitehorse, to the Southern Lakes Region.
Day 13: Tagish Lake
Relax and enjoy the remoteness of the Southern Lakes Resort. A beautiful place to wind down and enjoy the views from the balcony of your cabin, surrounded by nothing but nature. Rent a canoe ( surcharge applies), go for a hike and enjoy the views from the lakeside restaurant.
Day 14: Tagish Lake – Whitehorse (64 miles)
Enjoy the morning at your remote resort before you drive back to Whitehorse. Stop at Carcross, where a compelling First Nation culture invites you to experience their heritage, and Carcross Desert – often considered the smallest desert in the world.
Day 15: Whitehorse
Depending on your return time you may have some more time to enjoy the Yukon’s capital city. Return of your rental car and end of your trip.
