Cleaning Policy

Cleaning Fees

A cleaning fee may be applied for any dirt accumulation in any of these areas: Exterior of the vehicle, interior of the motorhome cab (vehicle part), interior of the motorhome living space. The exact charge is determined by the condition the vehicle is returned in and how much time will be required to clean the rental unit for the next guest.

Why?

We do ask our customers to return the vehicle clean, so we can properly inspect the condition of the vehicle. We are the only rental company allowing our 4×4 SUVs on all public roads in the US (including Alaska) and Canada – including dirt and gravel roads. If  we didn’t have this policy in place, most of our vehicles would return covered in dust and/or mud and we cannot fully inspect those vehicles when returned. However, there are two options you can choose from when it comes to the cleaning procedure.

Time Saver

We may charge a cleaning fee between $42.50 and $235 for the inside and between $25 and $150 for the outside cleaning. The exact charge is determined by the condition the vehicle is returned in and how much time will be required to clean the rental unit.

Money Saver

If you wish to avoid the cleaning fee, the vehicle should be returned with a clean interior and exterior. That means that the inside must be cleaned (shower, toilet, sinks, refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, dishes, pots, pans, and coffeemaker must be wiped clean) and you must sweep out the motorhome/truck camper. We will always take care of the cleaning of linens, duvet covers and towels, as this is part of our preparation fee.

In most cases, you will probably spend a similar amount to our cleaning charge if you choose to clean the unit outside yourself.

If you would like to see some examples where a cleaning fee would get applied, you can find some pictures below.

Examples

Examples where the maximum exterior cleaning fees would apply:

The more dirt, road dust and bugs are accumulated, the higher the exterior cleaning fee will be.

Examples where the maximum interior cleaning fee would apply:

The level of dirt, gravel, trash, and contamination present determines the precise cost of the interior cleaning fee for the vehicle cab and the living space of the motorhome.

Stains and odors which have been created during the rental, which require additional cleaning time or materials will be charged separately and do not fall under the standard cleaning fee.

Customer Reviews

We sometimes get bad reviews because of misunderstandings regarding our cleaning policy.

Google 1-star rating:

…They expect you to clean the vehicle as it was almost brand new…we’ve been renting campervans many times in many countries and I’ve never seen anything like this. It’s the Yukon and there’s dust and mosquitoes all over. I went to the car wash before taking it back but they would expect the car to be shiny and the floor mat to look like new or they would charge 500$ cleaning fee!!!…

GoNorth reply:

Hi, we are sorry to hear that the service provided did not meet your expectations.

GoNorth does not expect the vehicles to be cleaned to almost brand new. You can find our official communication regarding cleaning here.
We do inform our guests ahead of time regarding these potential charges, and 92% of all our guests – like you – never get charged any cleaning fee. GoNorth is the only rental company that allows all rental units to be driven on all public gravel roads in North America (with very few exceptions for Motorhomes) which does cause a lot of mud and dust on the vehicles exterior and interior.

Cleaning charges of US $ 500.00 can only be reached if clients would smoke in the unit in addition to mud and dirt inside the vehicle. Please find a list of possible charges here.

Feel free to contact us directly at wheels@gonorth-alaska.com if you have any further questions or concerns.
